Brake Assist System Description And Function: Notes
The Brake Assist System (BAS) registers any rapid brake application by the driver, and deploys additional brake pressure in case enough pressure has not been applied to the brake pedal. This helps to activate the ABS properly and swiftly. It reduces the braking distance and keeps the vehicle in control.
Brake Assist System Components:
- Brake pedal assembly (with brake angle sensor and brake light switch)
- Integrated dynamic brake (IDB) hydraulic unit (with integrated ECU and separate pedal simulator)
- Front brake assemblies
- Rear brake assemblies
Technical Description:
The BAS is designed to minimize the stopping distance of the vehicle during emergency braking.
It does this by maximizing the braking force applied if it detects an emergency due to a rapid brake pedal application by the driver (even if the brake pedal pressure is not sufficient to maximize the vehicle's braking).
