Front Side Door Water Deflector Removal And Installation/Replacement

Mobile Repair Possible:  Van/Car

Removal Procedure: 

The procedure for the left-hand component is identical to that for the right-hand side. 

  1. Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION AND REPLACEMENT
  2. Remove front side impact pressure sensor. Refer to SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
  3. Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector (1).
  4. Unclip the connectors (1) from the door.
  5. Use a suitable flat-blade plastic tool to remove the glue between the water deflector (3) and the front door.

    Removal note: Be careful not damage the water deflector or any cables! 

  6. Remove the front side door water deflector (1) from the door.
  7. Unthread the front side door emergency release cable (2) and the wiring harness (3) from the water deflector.

Installation Procedure: 

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure.

    Installation note: A damaged front side door water deflector needs to be replaced! 

  2. When reassembling: Lay the adhesive bead (butyl cord, diameter 4 mm) on top of the original adhesive bead on the water deflector.
  3. Replacement: Remove adhesive residues from the door and clean the adhesive area using General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, or isopropyl alcohol and a soft, clean cloth. Lay the adhesive bead (butyl cord, diameter 6 mm) to the area on the water deflector (1).

    Installation note: Adhesive surfaces must be dry and free of dust and grease.

    Installation note: Adhesive seal should be applied all around within the markings. 

  4. Heat the adhesive bead (1) slightly with a hot air blower if the bead is too cold to obtain a better bond.
  5. Thread the inside handle cable, the front side door emergency release cable and the wiring harness through the water deflector.
  6. Align the front side door water deflector (1) with the reference points (2) and install.
  7. Apply firm pressure all around the water deflector (1) to ensure it is secured and leak proof.
  8. Install front side impact pressure sensor. Refer to SIDE IMPACT PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
  9. Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION AND REPLACEMENT
