Operation: (Use Cases)
To activate VinPilot, the vehicle systems must detect/fulfill a number of conditions. Operational readiness is signaled to the driver by the gray "VinPilot" display (1).
The following conditions can result in an inability to activate VinPilot:
- Neither the two lane markings nor a vehicle ahead are detected
- The lane width is less than 2.6 m or greater than 4.3 m
- The yaw rate of the vehicle is above the value of 0.2 rad/s for more than 3 seconds
- The absolute curvature of the road ahead is greater than 0.0033 m
- The vehicle must be within the intervention zone
- Vehicle stability systems (VSE/TCS, ABS/ESP) must be inactive for 3 seconds
- ESS function must be inactive
- Reverse gear is engaged
- Driver does not have his hands on the steering wheel (hands-on detection)
- Electric power steering (EPS) is unable to react normally
Should the operating conditions fail to be met from time to time, the system produces an acoustic signal and pop-up in the display (2) and head-up display, to alert the driver to the fact that he must take full control of the vehicle again.
If you press the "VinPilot" button on the steering wheel and the system is not available, the system distinguishes between two situations.
- There is a technical defect/system error in the system - "VinPilot not available - yellow" (1)
- If there is a system error, the system displays the master warning light (1) and the pop-up warning "VinPilot not available - red" (2).
The system can detect a maximum of 6 objects ahead of the vehicle, and show their position and corresponding type. It distinguishes between trucks, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians and unknown objects (e.g. objects lying on the road). It also shows lane boundaries, if these are detected by the system.
