Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Removal And Installation/Replacement

Failure to follow specified procedures may result in death or serious injury due to improper handling of airbags possible.

Only appropriately trained persons may carry out work on pyrotechnic components or the Airbag Control Unit.
Perform SRS disabling procedure prior to commencing work.
When replacing components of the SRS system, never install used or non-genuine components.
Pyrotechnic Components must be handled and scrapped appropriately.

Removal Procedure:

There is potential for inadvertent deployment of SRS systems during repairs if the system has not been properly disabled. Refer to SRS DISABLING AND ENABLING
NOTE: Ensure the 2-minute wait time has been observed before proceeding to next step.
Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
Remove both instrument panel outer trim covers. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL OUTER TRIM COVER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
Remove Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique on driver side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE APPLIQUE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (DRIVER)
Remove Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique on passenger side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE APPLIQUE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (PASSENGER)
Remove instrument panel lower trim panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER TRIM PANEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT

Remove 2 screws (1) on both sides of the vehicle.
Torque: 2 Nm

Remove 2 bolts (1) for passenger airbag mounting.
Torque: 3.5 Nm

Unlock and disconnect electrical connector (1).

Carefully guide the instrument panel upper trim panel (2) with the airbag out of the interior of the vehicle. Proper care must be taken when handling and disposing of Airbag components. Refer to SRS HANDLING AND SCRAPPING

Replacement Procedure:

Rebuild passenger airbag IP module. Refer to PASSENGER AIRBAG IP MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT

Rebuild left and right air outlets (1).

Installation Procedure:

Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.
All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification!
Install Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique on driver side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE APPLIQUE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (DRIVER)
Install Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique on passenger side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE APPLIQUE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (PASSENGER)
Install instrument panel lower trim panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER TRIM PANEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
Install both instrument panel outer trim covers. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL OUTER TRIM COVER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
