- Service EGR system every 12, 500 miles, as indicated by EGR maintenance reminder light. To do so, remove EGR valve and clean base of valve with wire brush.
- Hold valve diaphragm open and clean valve with spark plug cleaner at 30 second intervals until valve is clean. Remove all traces of carbon and cleaning compound with compressed air.
- Examine EGR ports in exhaust manifold. If heavy carbon deposits are present, remove and clean exhaust manifold. Install EGR valve and check all vacuum hoses for damage and proper routing.
- To reset EGR maintenance reminder light, locate maintenance indicator on speedometer cable (engine compartment side). Insert special key into resetting socket and turn key until percentage indicator reads zero (0).
