Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION: Description

On 1974 models, exhaust gases are drawn from exhaust manifold through EGR valve and routed to intake manifold. The EGR system is controlled by metering valve and a choke operated cut-out system, which stops exhaust gas recirculation by opening an air bleed in vacuum control line when choke is on.

All 1975-79 models use a vacuum operated EGR valve to control exhaust gas flow. In addition, a fuel trap keeps liquid fuel vapor form entering EGR valve. An EGR maintenance reminder light on dash indicates when service is required.
