Fuel Pump: Inspection

  1. INSPECT FUEL PUMP 
    1. Check the resistance of the fuel pump.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2.

        Standard resistance: 0.2 to 3.0 Ω at 20°C (68°F) 

    2. Inspect the operation of the fuel pump.
      1. Connect the positive (+) battery lead to terminal 1 of the connector, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2. Check that the fuel pump operates.

        NOTE:
        • These tests must be performed within 10 seconds of connecting the battery to prevent the coil from burning out.
        • Keep the fuel pump as far away from the battery as possible.
        • Turn the voltage on and off on the battery side, not the fuel pump side.
