Parking Brake System: Adjustment
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
- Pull the parking brake lever firmly.
- Release the parking brake lock, and return the parking brake lever to its off position.
- Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way up, and count the number of clicks.
Parking brake lever travel:
6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)
- Remove the front upper console box (See REMOVAL ).
- Completely release the parking brake lever.
- Loosen the lock nut and the adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.
- Fully depress the brake lever 3 to 5 times with the engine stopped.
- Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to within the specified range.
Parking brake lever travel:
6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
- Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.
Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
- Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.
- Check whether the parking brake drags or not.
- Install the front upper console box (See INSTALLATION ).
- INSPECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER OPERATION LEVER AND STOPPER CLEARANCE (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)
- Release the parking brake lever and check that the clearance measurement between the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever and the stopper is within the specified range.
Clearance:
0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) or less
If the clearance is not within the specified range, replace the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
- Release the parking brake lever and check that the clearance measurement between the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever and the stopper is within the specified range.
- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)
- Remove the front upper console box (See REMOVAL ).
- Completely release the parking brake lever.
- Loosen the lock nut and the adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.
- Remove the rear wheel.
- Temporarily install the hub nuts.
- Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug.
- Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.
- Turn and contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly.
Standard:
Return 8 notches
- Check that there is no brake drag against the shoes.
- Install the shoe adjusting hole plug.
- Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to be within the specified range.
Parking brake lever travel:
6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
- Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.
Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
- Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.
Parking brake lever travel:
6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
- Check that there is no brake drag against the shoes.
- Remove the hub nuts.
- Install the rear wheel.
Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
- Install the front upper console box (See INSTALLATION ).
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
- When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.
Standard:
The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click .
- When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.
