Parking Brake System: Adjustment

INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
1. Pull the parking brake lever firmly.
2. Release the parking brake lock, and return the parking brake lever to its off position.
3. Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way up, and count the number of clicks.
  Parking brake lever travel:
  
  6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)
1. Remove the front upper console box (See REMOVAL ).
2. Completely release the parking brake lever.
3. Loosen the lock nut and the adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.
4. Fully depress the brake lever 3 to 5 times with the engine stopped.
5. Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to within the specified range.
  Parking brake lever travel:
  
  6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
6. Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.
  Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
7. Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.
8. Check whether the parking brake drags or not.
9. Install the front upper console box (See INSTALLATION ).

INSPECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER OPERATION LEVER AND STOPPER CLEARANCE (for Torsion Beam Type Suspension)
1. Release the parking brake lever and check that the clearance measurement between the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever and the stopper is within the specified range.
  Clearance:
  
  0.5 mm (0.0197 in.) or less
  
  If the clearance is not within the specified range, replace the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension)
1. Remove the front upper console box (See REMOVAL ).
2. Completely release the parking brake lever.
3. Loosen the lock nut and the adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.
4. Remove the rear wheel.
5. Temporarily install the hub nuts.
6. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug.

7. Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.
8. Turn and contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly.
  Standard:
  
  Return 8 notches
9. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoes.
10. Install the shoe adjusting hole plug.
11. Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is corrected to be within the specified range.
  Parking brake lever travel:
  
  6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)

12. Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.
  Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
13. Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.
  Parking brake lever travel:
  
  6 to 9 notches at 200 N (20 kgf, 44.9 lbf)
14. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoes.
15. Remove the hub nuts.
16. Install the rear wheel.
  Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
17. Install the front upper console box (See INSTALLATION ).
INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
1. When operating the parking brake lever, check that the brake warning light illuminates.
  Standard:
  
  The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click .
