Terminals Of Ecu

  1. CHECK TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER 
    1. Disconnect the E72 amplifier connector and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      TERMINAL DESCRIPTION

      Terminal No. (Symbol) Wiring Color Terminal Description Condition Specified Condition
      E72-7 (AGND) - Body ground L - Body ground Ground Always Below 1 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, there may be a malfunction on the wire harness side.

    2. Reconnect the E72 amplifier connector and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      TERMINAL DESCRIPTION

      E72-1 (VC5) - E72-7 (AGND) GR-R - L Power source No key is in ignition key cylinder Below 1 V
      Key is in ignition key cylinder 4.6 to 5.4 V
      E72-4 (CODE) - E72-7 (AGND) P-G-L Demodulated signal of key code data No key is in ignition key cylinder Below 1 V
      Key is in ignition key cylinder Waveform 1
      E72-5 (TXCT) - E72-7 (AGND) LG-R - L Key code output signal No key is in ignition key cylinder Below 1 V
      Key is in ignition key cylinder Waveform 2

      If the result is not as specified, the amplifier may have a malfunction.

    3. Inspect using an oscilloscope.
      1. Waveform 1
        WAVEFORM 1 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E72-4 (CODE) - E72-7 (AGND)
        Tool Setting 2V/DIV., 20ms./DIV.
        Condition Key is in ignition key cylinder

      2. Waveform 2
        WAVEFORM 2 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E72-5 (TXCT) - E72-7 (AGND)
        Tool Setting 2 V/DIV., 10 ms./DIV.
        Condition Key is in ignition key cylinder

  2. CHECK TRANSPONDER KEY ECU 
    1. Disconnect the E73 ECU connector and measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      E73-1 (+B) - E73-16 (GND) W-R - W-B Battery Always 11 to 14 V
      E73-2 (IG) - E73-16 (GND) B-O - W-B Ignition switch signal Ignition switch OFF Below 1 V
      Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      E73-3 (KSW) - E73-16 (GND) G-Y - W-B Unlock warning switch signal No key is in ignition key cylinder 10 kΩ or higher
      Key is in ignition key cylinder Below 1 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, there may be a malfunction on the wire harness side.

    2. Reconnect the E73 ECU connector and measure the resistance and voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      E73-5 (AGND) - Body ground L - Body ground Ground Always Below 1 Ω

      E73-14 (VC5) - E73-5 (AGND) GR-R - L Power source No key is in ignition key cylinder Below 1 V

      If the result is not as specified, the ECU may have a malfunction.

    3. Inspect using an oscilloscope.
      1. Waveform 1
        WAVEFORM 1 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E73-4 (TXCT) - E73-5 (AGND)
        Tool Setting 2V/DIV., 10ms./DIV.
        Condition Key is in ignition key cylinder

      2. Waveform 2
        WAVEFORM 2 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E73-15 (CODE) - E73-5 (AGND)
        Tool Setting 2V/DIV., 20ms./DIV.
        Condition Key is in ignition key cylinder

      3. Waveform 3
        WAVEFORM 3 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E73-13 (EFIO) - E73-16 (GND)
        Tool Setting 2 V/DIV., 1 s./DIV.
        Condition Ignition switch ON

      4. Waveform 4
        WAVEFORM 4 REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E73-12 (EFII) - E73-16 (GND)
        Tool Setting 2 V/DIV, 1 s./DIV.
        Condition Ignition switch ON

  3. CHECK ECM 
    1. Disconnect the E46 ECM connector and measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      TERMINAL DESCRIPTION

      E46-35 (EOM) - Body ground W-B - Body ground Ground Always Below 1 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, there may be a malfunction on the wire harness side.

    2. Reconnect the E46 ECM connector. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
      TERMINAL DESCRIPTION

      E46-16 (IMI) - E46-35 (EOM) W-R - W-B Transponder key ECU input signal Ignition switch OFF Below 1 V
      Ignition switch ON Waveform 1
      E46-15 (IMO) - E46-35 (EOM) L-O - W-B Transponder key ECU output signal Ignition switch OFF Below 1 V
      Ignition switch ON Waveform 2

      If the result is not as specified, the ECM may have a malfunction.

    3. Inspect using an oscilloscope.
      1. Waveform 1
        WAVEFORM REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E46-16 (IMI) - E46-28 (EOM)
        Tool Setting 2 V/DIV, 1 s./DIV.
        Condition Ignition switch ON

      2. Waveform 2
        WAVEFORM REFERENCE

        Tester Connection E46-15 (IMO) - E46-28 (EOM)
