Back Door Glass: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE REAR WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear wiper) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  3. REMOVE BACK DOOR LOWER TRIM BOARD ASSEMBLY (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  4. REMOVE BACK DOOR UPPER TRIM BOARD ASSEMBLY (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  5. REMOVE BACK DOOR TRIM UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  6. REMOVE BACK DOOR SIDE GARNISH LH (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  7. REMOVE BACK DOOR SIDE GARNISH RH (See  DISASSEMBLY  ) 
  8. REMOVE REAR WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear wiper) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. REMOVE REAR SPOILER SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  10. REMOVE BACK DOOR GLASS 
    1. Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.
      NOTE: When separating the back door glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle's paint or interior/exterior ornaments.

    2. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and back door glass as shown in Fig 2.

    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.
    4. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the back door glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the back door glass.
    5. Using suction cups, remove the back door glass.
  11. CLEAN BACK DOOR GLASS 
    1. Clean the outer edge of the back door glass with white gasoline.
      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the back door glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Be careful not to damage the glass.
      • Even if using new back door glass, clean the back door glass with white gasoline.

  12. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the moulding and adhesive from the back door glass.
    2. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in Fig 4.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

        HINT:

        Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
