Steering Column Assembly: Removal

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE STEERING PAD (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and main shaft assembly.
    3. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951 -05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

  7. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 pins, and remove the lower steering column cover.

  8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Disengage the claw to remove the steering column cover.

  9. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

  10. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Coupe) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  11. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Convertible) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  12. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Coupe) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Convertible) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  15. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL INSERT SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
  17. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  18. REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO FOOT DUCT (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  19. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 4 connectors and wire harness clamp from the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    2. Loosen bolt A and remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield.
    3. Separate the steering column hole cover No. 2 from the steering column hole shield.
    4. Loosen bolt B on the steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    5. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft * assembly and power steering link assembly.
    6. Remove the bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
    2. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and steering column assembly.
