Steering Column Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the steering column assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the connectors.
    3. Install the wire harness clamps to the steering column assembly.

  2. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35.0 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    3. Tighten bolt B on the intermediate shaft sub-assembly.

      Torque: 35.0 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

    4. Install the steering column hole cover No.2 to the steering column hole shield.
    5. Connect the clamp to the steering column hole shield and tighten bolt A.
    6. Connect the 4 connectors and install the wire harness clamp to the instrument panel junction block assembly.

  3. INSTALL NO. 3 HEATER TO FOOT DUCT 
  4. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL 
  5. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
  6. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL INSERT SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
  7. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH 
  8. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Coupe) 
  9. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Convertible) 
  10. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Coupe); 
  11. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Convertible) 
  12. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly.
    2. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

  13. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw to install the steering column cover.

  14. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the 2 claws and 2 pins.
    2. Install the lower steering column cover with the 2 screws.

  15. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  16. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  17. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft assembly.
    2. Install the steering wheel assembly with the set nut.

      Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) 

    3. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable sub-assembly.
  18. INSTALL STEERING PAD (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  19. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  20. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  21. INSPECT STEERING PAD (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  22. CHECK KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION 

    HINT:

    If there is abnormality, replace the key interlock solenoid.

  23. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 

    HINT:

    When the steering wheel is not properly centered, remove and refit to center.

  24. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  25. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 

    HINT:

    • (See INITIALIZATION )
    • When disconnecting the negative battery terminal, it is necessary to initialize other systems.
  26. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 

    HINT:

    (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )
