Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION (STOP LIGHT SWITCH CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed and goes off when the brake pedal is released.

      OK 

      PEDAL CONDITION CHART

      Pedal Condition Illumination Condition
      Brake pedal depressed ON
      Brake pedal released OFF

    NG:  Go to step  4

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR (STP TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A40-20 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      A40-20 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 4.0 V

    NG:  Go to step  6

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Depress the brake pedal several times to test the stop light circuit.
    4. Check that the same DTC is recorded.

      HINT:

      Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the vehicle to its prior condition before rechecking for DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    B : REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 

    A : END 

  4. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A23-2 - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Switch pin free Below 1 Ω
      1 - 2 Switch pin pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch connector and skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      A40-20 (STP) -A23-1 (STP) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO SKID CONTROL ECU)

    OK : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT CIRCUIT)
