Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using an intelligent tester. Freeze frame data record the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data, from the time the malfunction occurred.
- READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STOP LIGHT SW)
- Connect an intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester ON.
- Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / STOP LIGHT SW.
- Read the values displayed on the tester.
OK
DISPLAY REFERENCEItem Measurement Item: Range (display) Normal Condition STOP LIGHT SW Stop light switch status: ON or OFF - ON: Brake pedal is depressed
- OFF: Brake pedal is released
OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
NG: GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See INSPECTION PROCEDURE
)
NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH - ECM)
- Disconnect the A21 ECM connector.
- Disconnect the A13 stop light switch connector.
- Check the resistance.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connections Specified Conditions STP (A21-36) - Stop light switch (A13-1) Below 1 Ω ST1- (A21-35) - Stop light switch (A13-4) Standard resistance (Check for short)
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connections Specified Conditions STP (A21-36) or Stop light switch (A13-1) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher ST1- (A21-35) or Stop light switch (A13-4) - Body ground - Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Reconnect the stop light switch connector.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: REPLACE ECM
