Transmission Control Cable Assembly: Adjustment

  1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION 
    1. When shifting it to each position, make sure that the shifting lever moves smoothly, can be moderately operated and the position indicator displays correctly.

      Positions which can be operated without pressing the shift lever knob button: 

      R → N → D, L → 2 → 3 → D → N Positions which can be operated only while pressing the shift lever knob button: 

      D → 3 → 2 → L, N → R → P Positions which can be operated only while pressing the shift lever knob button with the ignition switch ON and brake pedal depressed: 

      P → R

    2. When starting the engine, make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N to the D position, and moves rearward when shifting to the R position.
  2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION 
    1. Loosen the nut on the control shaft lever.

    2. Push the control shaft fully downward.
    3. Return the control shaft lever 2 notches to the N position.

    4. While pushing the control cable end up with the shift lever in the N position, install it to the control shaft lever with the nut.

      Torque: 15 N*m (150 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • If the control cable end is excessively pushed up, the shift lever cannot be adjusted.
      • When tightening the nut, confirm that the control cable is properly stretched.
    5. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting the lever from the N to the D position and moves rearward when shifting it to the R position.
