Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. CHECK IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM 

    Result 

    RESULT CHART

    Result Proceed to
    Without SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM A
    With SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM B

    B:  Go to step  11

    A: Go to Next Step 

  2. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    4. Read the value displayed on the tester when the ignition switch is turned on (IG) and when the engine is started.

      OK 

      STARTER SIGNAL SPECIFICATION

      Ignition Switch Starter Signal
      ON (IG) OFF
      Engine start ON

    OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the PNP switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance when the transaxle gear selector lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Gear Selector Lever Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      R 1 - 2
      N 2 - 9, 4 - 5
      D 2 - 7
      2 2 - 3
      L 2 - 8
    3. Reconnect the PNP switch connector.

    OK:  Go to step  6

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  4. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
  5. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    4. Read the value displayed on the tester when the ignition switch is turned on (IG) and when the engine is started.

      OK 

      STARTER SIGNAL SPECIFICATION

      Ignition Switch Starter Signal
      ON (IG) OFF
      Engine start ON

    OK: SYSTEM OK 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  6. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Ignition Switch Specified Condition
      All Terminals LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
      2 - 3 ACC Below 1 Ω
      2 - 3 - 4, 6 - 7 ON
      1 - 2 - 4, 6 - 7 - 8 START

    3. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

    OK:  Go to step  8

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  7. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
  8. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    4. Read the value displayed on the tester when the ignition switch is turned on (IG) and when the engine is started.

      OK 

      STARTER SIGNAL SPECIFICATION

      Ignition Switch Starter Signal
      ON (IG) OFF
      Engine start ON

    OK: SYSTEM OK 

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  9. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY CIRCUIT) 
  10. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Clear the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    4. Drive the vehicle at more than 20 km/h (12.4 mph) for over 20 seconds.
    5. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.
    6. Read DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      P0617 A
      No DTC B

    B: SYSTEM OK 

    A: REPLACE ECM 

  11. READ VALUE OF INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
    4. Read the value displayed on the tester when the ignition switch is turned on (IG) and when the engine is started.

      OK 

      STARTER SIGNAL SPECIFICATION

      Ignition Switch Starter Signal
      ON (IG) OFF
      Ignition Switch Starter Signal
      Engine start ON

      OK: REPLACE ECM 

      NG: Go to Next Step 

  12. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the PNP switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance when the transaxle gear selector lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      R 1 - 2
      N 2 - 9, 4 - 5
      D 2 - 7
      2 2 - 3
      L 2 - 8
    3. Reconnect the PNP switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 

    OK: CHECK CRANKING HOLDING FUNCTION CIRCUIT
