On-Vehicle Inspection

1. Check the DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
   NOTE: If a DTC is present, perform troubleshooting in accordance with the procedure for that DTC.
2. Check that sparks occur.
   1. Remove the circuit opening relay (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).
   2. Remove the V-bank cover (see REPLACEMENT ).
   3. Remove the air cleaner (see REPLACEMENT ).
   4. Disconnect the ventilation hose.
   5. Remove the 6 ignition coils.
   6. Using a 16 mm spark plug wrench, remove the 6 spark plugs.
   7. Install each spark plug into an ignition coil, then connect the ignition coil connectors.
   8. Ground the spark plugs.
   9. Check that sparks occur at each spark plug while the engine is being cranked.
   NOTE:

   • Be sure to ground the spark plugs when checking.
   • Replace the ignition coil if it has been dropped or subjected to any other impact.
   • Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.

If sparks do not occur, perform the following procedure.

• NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

• NG: CONNECT SECURELY 
• OK: Go To Next Step. 

• OK: REPLACE IGNITION COIL ASSY  (See REPLACEMENT  )
• NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

1. Disconnect the ignition coil connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage between the terminals.

• NG: CHECK WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN POWER SWITCH AND IGNITION COIL ASSY) 
• OK: Go To Next Step. 

• NG: REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR  (See REPLACEMENT  )
• OK: Go To Next Step.
