Fuel System (2TR-FE): Inspection

  1. INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR ASSY
    1. Check the resistance.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Resistance: 11.6 to 12.4Ω at 20°C (68°F)

If the result is not as specified, replace the fuel injector.

    2. Check the injection volume.

CAUTION: This test involves high-pressure fuel and electricity, therefore, safety precautions should be taken. Perform this test in a safe area and avoid any sparks and flames. Do not smoke.
      1. Discharge the fuel system pressure (See PRECAUTION ).
      2. Remove the fuel hose from the fuel pressure pulsation damper (see REPLACEMENT  ).
      3. Remove the fuel hose from the fuel pipe (See PRECAUTION ).
      4. Separate the pressure regulator (see REPLACEMENT  )
NOTE: Do not separate the fuel hose No. 2.
      5. Assemble SST as shown in the illustration.

        SST 09268-41048 (09268-41091, 09268-41110, 09268-41120, 09268-41500, 95336-08070, 90467-13001)

      6. Connect SST to the fuel pipe.

      7. Install the pressure regulator onto SST (union) with the 2 bolts.

        Torque: 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 75 in..lbf)

        SST 09268-41048 (09268-41091)

NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is installed onto the pressure regulator.

      8. Install the O-ring onto the injector.
      9. Assemble SST as shown in the illustration.

        SST 09268-41048 (09268-41110, 09268-41310)

      10. Put the injector into a graduated cylinder.
CAUTION: Install a suitable vinyl tube onto the injector to contain any gasoline spray.

      11. Make sure that SST is installed as shown in the illustration.
      12. Operate the fuel pump (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION ).

      13. Connect SST (wire) to the injector and the battery for 15 seconds, and measure the injection volume with a graduated cylinder. Test each injector 2 or 3 times.

        SST 09842-30080

Volume: 71 to 86 cm 3  (4.3 to 5.2 cu in.) per 15 seconds Difference between each injector:

15 cm 3  (0.9 cu in.) or less

If the injection volume is not as specified, replace the injector.

    3. Check the leakage.
      1. In the condition above, disconnect the tester probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.

Fuel drop: 1 drop or less in 12 minutes

  2. INSPECT FUEL PUMP ASSY
    1. Check the resistance.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

        Resistance: 0.2 to 3.0Ω at 20°C (68°F)

    2. Check the operation.
      1. Apply battery voltage to both terminals. Check that the pump operates.

      NOTE:
      • These tests must be performed quickly (within 10 seconds) to prevent damage to the pump.
      • Keep the fuel pump as far away from the battery as possible.
      • Always do the switching at the battery side.
