Reference: Below 0.5 km/h (0.3 mph)
- Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer fro allowable indication error and check the operation of the odometer.
- Check the operation.
- INSPECT OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED
- Check the input signal wave form.
- Remove the combination meter with connectors still connected.
- Connect the oscilloscope to terminal C9-10 and body ground.
- Start the engine.
- Check the signal wave form according to the condition(s) in the table below.
ITEM CONDITION SPECIFICATIONItem Condition Tool setting 5 V/DIV, 20 ms/DIV Vehicle condition Driving at approx. 20 km/h (12 mph) OK:
As shown in the illustration
HINT:
As vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal wave form narrows.
- Check the input signal wave form.
- INSPECT TACHOMETER
- Check the operation
- Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.NOTE:
- Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and diodes inside.
- When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
- Compare the test and tachometer indications.
- Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.

- Turn the ignition switch ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK:
Needle position is on (EMPTY).
- Connect terminals 2 and 3 on the wire harness side connector and turn the ignition switch ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK:
Needle position is on (FULL).
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch ON, check the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and fuel level warning lights light on.
OK:
Fuel level warning light comes on.
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT WATER TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch ON, check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: COOL
- Connect between terminals on the wire harness side connector, then check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.
Needle position: HOT
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the low oil pressure switch.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Connect the terminal of wire harness side connector and ground, then check the warning low oil pressure warning light.
OK:
Low oil pressure warning light comes on.
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the parking brake warning light.
- Disconnect the connector from the parking brake switch.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Ground the terminal of the wire harness side connector, then check the parking brake warning light.
OK:
Brake warning light comes on.
- Inspect the brake fluid level warning light.

- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard:
Float up (switch off): 10 kΩ or higher
- Use a siphon, etc. to take fluid out of the reservoir tank.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
Standard:
Float down (switch on): Below 1 Ω
- Pour the fluid back in the reservoir tank.
- MAINTENANCE LIQUID RESETTING PROCEDURE
Indicator Condition:
INDICATOR CONDITION SPECIFICATIONState Condition Specified State Blinking The vehicle runs 4,500 miles after the previous setting The indicator blinks for 15 seconds after the ignition switch is on (including 3 seconds for a bulb 9 check) Continuously Illuminated The vehicle runs 5,000 miles after the previous setting The indicator is continuously illuminated after ignition switch is on. - Set the display window to ODO.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Pressing the reset switch, turn the ignition switch to the ON position (keep pressing for at least 5 seconds.)
- Reset procedure is completed.
HINT:
- If the ignition switch is off during reset procedure, reset mode is canceled.
- If the reset switch is pushed off during the reset procedure, reset mode is canceled and the display shows the condition prior to the reset procedure.
