Component Tests: Tachometer

- On-Vehicle Inspection -
Connect a tune-up test tachometer and start the engine. Compare the tester and tachometer indications (DC 13.5 Volts at 77°F (25°C)). See INSPECTING TACHOMETER ON-VEHICLE table.INSPECTING TACHOMETER ON-VEHICLE
Standard Indication Allowable Range 700 630-770 1000 900-1100 2000 1850-2150 3000 2800-3200 4000 3800-4200 5000 4800-5200 6000 5750-6250 7000 6700-7300 - Resistance Inspection - Measure the resistance between terminals with fixing pointer to the stopper. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . See INSPECTING RESISTANCE WITH FIXING POINTER TO STOPPER table. If the resistance value is not as specified, replace the meter. See COMBINATION METER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
CAUTION:
Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and diodes inside. When removing and installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
