Non-Tilt Steering Column: Installation
- 2WD:
INSTALL UNIVERSAL JOINT NO. 2 AND COLUMN HOLE COVER
- Install the column hole cover to the universal joint no.2.
- Align the matchmarks on the sliding yoke and main shaft assembly.
- Install the bolt.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
- Install the column hole cover with the 5 bolts
Torque: 8.0 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in..lbf)
CAUTION: Be cover not to damage the hole cover dust seal - 4WD:
INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER NO. 2
Install the column hole cover No. 2 to the universal joint No. 2.
- 4WD:
INSTALL UNIVERSAL JOINT NO. 2
- Align the matchmarks on the universal joint No. 2 and main shaft assembly.
- Install the bolt.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
- INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
- Install the steering column assembly with the 2 bolts and nuts.
Torque: 26 N.m (260 kgf.cm, 19 ft.lbf)
- Connect the connectors.
- Install the steering column assembly with the 2 bolts and nuts.
- 4WD:
INSTALL COLUMN HOLE COVER AND COLUMN
HOLE COVER NO. 2 SET BOLTS
Install the column hole cover with the 2 bolts and 3 column hole cover No. 2 set bolts.
Torque: 8.0 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in..lbf)
- INSTALL INTERMEDIATE NO. 2 SHAFT
- Align the matchmarks on the intermediate No. 2 shaft and control valve shaft.
- Connect the intermediate No. 2 shaft to the universal joint No. 2 and temporarily tighten the bolt A.
- Install the bolt B.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
- Torque the bolt A.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
- CONNECT JUNCTION BLOCK NO. 1
Connect the junction block No. 1 and install the 2 bolts.
- INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE (See COMPONENTS )
- INSTALL COMBINATION SWITCH WITH SPIRAL CABLE
- Tighten the 3 screws.
- Connect the airbag connector.
- Connect the 3 connectors.
- INSTALL NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
Install the No. 2 heater to resister duct with the screw.
- INSTALL LOWER LH FINISH PANEL
- Install the lower LH finish panel with the 4 bolts and screw.
- Connect the hood lock release lever with the 2 screws.
- INSTALL UPPER AND LOWER COLUMN COVERS
Install the upper and lower column covers with the 3 screws.
- CENTER SPIRAL CABLE
- Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
- Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable.
- Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the mark.
NOTE:The cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either left or right of the center.

- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL
- Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
- Install the wheel set nut.
Torque: 50 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 35 ft.lbf)
- Connect the connector.
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL PAD CAUTION:
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
- If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts.
- Connect the airbag connector.
- Install the wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screw is caught on the screw case.
CAUTION: COLUMN SHIFT:
Take care that the spiral cable does not touch the dynamic damper of the steering wheel. - Using a torx socket wrench, torque the 2 screws. Torque: 9.0 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in..lbf)
- Install the 2 steering wheel lower No. 2 covers.
- CHECK STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
