Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check theft deterrent system operation. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - AVALON article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If theft deterrent system does not operate properly, diagnose theft deterrent ECU. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - AVALON article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If theft deterrent system does operate properly, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect theft deterrent ECU 26-pin electrical harness connector T4 and body control ECU 25-pin electrical harness connector B4. See Figure. Using DVOM, check continuity of Violet wire between theft deterrent ECU 26-pin electrical harness connector T4 terminal No. 10 and body control ECU 25-pin electrical harness connector B4 terminal No. 23. If continuity exists, diagnose theft deterrent ECU. See TROUBLE SHOOTING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - AVALON article under DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit in Violet wire between theft deterrent ECU and body control ECU. See ANTI-THEFT in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  3. After repairs have been made, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
