On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER 
    1. Check the speedometer operation.
      1. Using a speedometer tester, inspect the speedometer for allowable indication error and check the operation of the odometer.

        USA (mph):

        CANADA (km/h):

        NOTE: Tire wear and tire over or tire under inflation will increase the indication error.
      2. Check the deflection width of the speedometer indicator.

      Reference: Below 0.5 km/h (0.3 mph) 

  2. INSPECT OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED 
    1. Check for standard signal.
      1. While driving the vehicle at a speed of 10 km/h, check the voltage between terminal C12-6 of the combination meter assy and body ground.

      Standard: Fluctuation between 10 to 14 V or less is repeated 7 times within 1 sec. 

    NOTE: Check it with the ignition switch ON and the connector connected.
  3. INSPECT TACHOMETER 
    1. Check the tachometer operation
      1. Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.
        NOTE:
        • Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and diodes inside.
        • When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or give it heavy shocks.
      2. Compare the test results and tachometer indications.

  4. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Inspect the fuel receiver gauge circuit.

      1. Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.

        Needle position: EMPTY 

      3. Connect terminals 2 and 3 on the wire harness side connector of main fuel sender gauge.
      4. Turn the ignition switch ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.

        Needle position: FULL 

  5. INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING 
    1. Inspect the fuel level warning circuit.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON, check that the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and fuel level warning lights light on-up.
  6. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the warning light circuit.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON, check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.

        Needle position: COOL 

      3. Ground terminal 2 on the wire harness side, then check the position of the water temperature receiver gauge needle.

        Needle position: HOT 

  7. INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT (Driver side seat) 
    1. Check the seat belt warning light (driver side) operation.
      1. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the warning light lights up.
      2. Fasten the outer belt to the inner belt and check that the warning light goes off.
      3. Disconnect the connector from the buckle switch and ground terminal on the wire harness side connector.
      4. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the warning light lights up.
  8. INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT (w/ Passenger side seat light) 
    1. Check the seat belt warning light (passenger side) operation.
      1. Turn the ignition switch ON, then sit down in the passenger side seat, and then check that the seat belt warning light in the heater control panel lights up.
    2. Inspect the front seat inner belt circuit.

      1. Disconnect the connector from the front seat inner belt.
      2. Connect terminals 1 and 4 of the wire harness side connector.
      3. Turn the ignition switch ON and check the warning light.

        Seat belt warning light: Lights up 

  9. INSPECT LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the low oil pressure warning light circuit.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the low oil pressure switch.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
      3. Connect the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground, then check the low oil pressure warning light.

        Low oil pressure warning light: Lights up 

  10. INSPECT KEY UNLOCK WARNING BUZZER 
    1. Check the key unlock warning buzzer operation.
      NOTE: When the key unlock warning signal and light auto turn off warning signal is output simultaneously, the key unlock warning signal is prior to the other.
      1. While the driver side door is open, insert the key into the ignition key cylinder, set the ignition switch OFF (LOCK or ACC) and check for the buzzer sound.

        Buzzer: Sounds intermittently 

  11. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the parking brake warning light.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the parking brake switch and ground terminal on the wire harness side connector.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the warning light lights up.
    2. Inspect the brake fluid level warning light.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the brake fluid level warning switch and connect terminals on the wire harness side connector.
      2. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the warning light lights up.
  12. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Inspect the brake fluid level warning switch continuity.
      1. Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
      2. Disconnect the switch connector.
      3. Check that continuity exists between the switch terminals.

        Float up (switch OFF): No continuity 

      4. Using a syphon to take fluid out of the reservoir tank.
      5. Check that continuity exists between the terminals.

        Float down (switch ON): Continuity 

      6. Pour the fluid back in the reservoir tank.
  13. INSPECT WINDOW WASHER LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Check the washer level warning switch operation.
      1. Disconnect the connector from the warning switch and ground terminal on the wire harness side connector.
      2. Run the engine and check that the warning light lights up.
  14. INSPECT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WARNING BUZZER 
    1. Check the warning buzzer function
      1. Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the driver side seat belt warning buzzer sounds when the driver side seat belt is not fastened.
      2. Check that the buzzer stops after about 4 to 8 seconds.
