System Operation Check
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Camry and 2002 Toyota Camry. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Ensure buzzer operational mode has not been turned off. To change buzzer operational mode, see WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM BUZZER under PROGRAMMING.
NOTE:
Keyless entry system LOCK/UNLOCK function can only be operated when key is not in ignition switch and all doors are closed (OPEN DOOR indicator light off).
- Stand about 3 feet from outside door handle on driver door. Point remote transmitter toward vehicle. If remote transmitter has an LED, depress each LOCK, UNLOCK and TRUNK RELEASE button 3 times and ensure LED lights up 3 times. If LED does not light up 3 times when each button is depressed 3 times, replace remote transmitter battery. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- On all remote transmitters, depress LOCK button for about one second. All doors should lock, wireless door lock control system buzzer should sound once and turn signals should flash once. Check to ensure doors are locked. If any door is not securely closed, lock function cannot be performed by remote transmitter and buzzer should sound for 10 seconds. Buzzer will not sound if key is left in ignition switch. To stop the buzzer, close all doors or depress UNLOCK button on remote transmitter.
- Depress UNLOCK button for about one second. Only driver door should unlock. Depress UNLOCK button twice within 3 seconds. All doors should unlock. Each time UNLOCK button is depressed, buzzer should sound twice and turn signals should flash twice. Dome light and ignition switch light should illuminate when UNLOCK button is depressed and should remain illuminated for about 15 seconds, unless any door is opened or closed.
- To check automatic locking function, depress UNLOCK button twice within 3 seconds. All doors should unlock. Wait 30 seconds without opening any door or using remote transmitter to lock doors. All doors should automatically lock. Repeat procedure, but open any door or use remote transmitter to lock the doors before the 30-second time period has elapsed. Doors should not automatically lock.
- To check remote transmitter fail-safe operation, leave key in ignition switch. Depress LOCK or UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Doors should not lock or unlock.
- To check chatter prevention function, depress and hold any remote transmitter button longer than one second. Corresponding function should be carried out only once and not be continuously repeated. Depress any remote transmitter button for one second, wait one second, then depress another remote transmitter button for one second. Corresponding functions should be carried out in response to remote transmitter.
- To check repeat function, hold driver door lock knob in UNLOCK position and depress remote transmitter LOCK button once for one second. Release driver door lock knob. Wireless entry system should automatically lock all doors after one second.
- To check stop function, ensure at least one door is open or not fully closed (OPEN DOOR indicator light illuminated). Depress LOCK or UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Doors should not respond. Trunk opener function should operate.
- To check trunk release function, depress TRUNK RELEASE button for 1 second. Trunk should open and buzzer should make one long sound. Trunk release function should work when any door is open, but not work when ignition switch is in ON position.
