Quarter Window Assembly LH: Replacement

NOTE:
  • The installation is in the reverse order of the removal. However, when there is a special point concerning the installation, it is indicated.
  • On the RH side, use in the same procedure as on the LH side.
  1. REMOVE REAR SEAT ASSY LH (See step 3 under  OVERHAUL  ) 
  2. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (See steps 5 & 6 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  3. REMOVE REAR DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH 
  4. REMOVE TONNEAU COVER ASSY (W/ TONNEAU COVER) 
  5. REMOVE DECK BOARD SUB-ASSY (See step 17 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. REMOVE DECK BOARD SUB-ASSY NO. 3 
  7. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRAY 
  8. REMOVE DECK SIDE TRIM BOX LH (See steps 22 and 23 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  9. REMOVE REAR FLOOR FINISH PLATE (See step 24 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  10. REMOVE LUGGAGE HOLD BELT STRIKER ASSY 
  11. REMOVE REAR COMBINATION LAMP SERVICE COVER LH 
  12. REMOVE DECK SIDE TRIM COVER LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  13. REMOVE DECK TRIM SIDE PANEL ASSY LH 
  14. REMOVE QUARTER PILLAR GARNISH LH (See steps 27 and 28 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  15. REMOVE ROOF SIDE RAIL GARNISH SUB-ASSY LH (See steps 29 and 30 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  16. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH ASSY INNER LH (See steps 31 and 32 under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  17. REMOVE QUARTER WINDOW ASSY LH 
    1. Using a knife, cut off the molding as shown in Fig 1.

      CAUTION: Do not damage the body with the knife.
    2. Disconnect the connector.
    3. Pass a piano wire through between the body and glass from the interior.
    4. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects.
      NOTE: Apply protective tape to the outer surface to prevent the surface from being scratched.
      CAUTION: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and interior exterior ornaments as shown in Fig 2.

    5. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.

    6. Remove the glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.
  18. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW GLASS SPACER 
    1. Remove the damaged spacer.
    2. Cut off the old adhesive around the spacer installation area.
      CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the body.
    3. Clean the installation area.
    4. Install a new quarter window glass spacer onto the glass.
  19. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW ASSY LH 
    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the body panel.
      1. Using a knife, cut away any rough adhesive on the contact surface of the body to shape the surface.

        NOTE: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body panel as possible.
      2. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated with cleaner.
      NOTE: Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the body.
    2. Position glass.
      1. Place the glass in the correct position.
      2. Check that all contacting parts of the glass rim are perfectly even.
      3. Place reference marks between the glass and body panel.
      4. Remove the glass.
    3. Coat contact surface of body panel with Primer M.

      1. Using a brush, coat Primer M to the exposed part of body panel on the vehicle side.
      NOTE:
      • Dry the primer coating for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not apply Primer M onto the adhesive.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.
    4. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with Primer G.
      1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with Primer G.
      2. When the primer is coated wrongly to the area other than the specified, wipe it off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries.
      NOTE:
      • Dry the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.
    5. Apply adhesive.

      1. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle.

        part No. 08550-00801 or equivalent 

        NOTE: After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in ADHESIVE SPECIFICATIONS .
        ADHESIVE SPECIFICATIONS

        Temperature Tackfree Time
        35° C (95° F) 15 Minutes
        20° C (68° F) 100 Minutes
        5° C (41° F) 8 Hours
      2. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.
      3. Coat the glass with adhesive, as shown in the illustration on the previous page.

      a: 8 mm (0.31 in.) 

      b: 6 mm (0.24 in.) 

      c: 5 mm (0.20 in.) 

      d: 2 mm (0.08 in.) 

      e: 4 mm (0.16 in.) 

      NOTE:
      • Dry the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.
    6. Install the glass.
      1. Using a suction rubber, position the glass so that the reference marks are lined up, and press it in gently along the rim.
        NOTE:
        • Dry the primer coating for 3 minutes or more.
        • Check that the stoppers are attached to the body correctly.
        • Check the clearance between the body and glass.
      2. Lightly press the glass front surface for close contact.
      3. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.
        NOTE: Confirm that the molding is attached to the body panel as shown in Fig 7.
        CAUTION: Take care not to drive the vehicle during the time described in ADHESIVE SPECIFICATIONS .

        ADHESIVE SPECIFICATIONS

        Temperature Minimum Time Prior To Driving The Vehicle
        35° C(95° F) 1.5 Hours
        20° C(68° F) 5 Hours
        5° C(41° F) 24 Hours
  20. WATER-LEAK CHECK AND REPAIR 
    1. Conduct a leak test after adhesive has completely hardened.
    2. Seal any leak with sealant.
