Field Coil Test
NOTE:
Test for 1.4 and 2 kilowatt field coil type starters only.
- Using an ohmmeter, verify that there is continuity between the lead wire and field coil brush lead. If there is no continuity, replace the field frame. See Fig 1.
- Using an ohmmeter, verify that there is no continuity between the field coil end and field frame. If continuity is present, replace the field frame. See Fig 1.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between shunt coil terminals "A" and "B". See Fig 2. Verify coil resistance is within specification. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS . If the resistance is not as specified, replace the starter yoke assembly.
