Tilt Steering Column: Installation
NOTE:
Never rotate the steering shaft as much as possible, when you connect the inter mediate shaft to the gear box. ECU will detect the failure, if the steering shaft would rotate more than +/- 57 degree from installing steering angle sensor to adjusting the alignment.
- Install New Steering Angle Sensor.
- Fix the adapter to the steering shaft surely.
- Insert the projection of steering angle sensor toward the holder on steering column surely.
- Insert the connector of steering angle sensor to the bracket on the lower side of steering column. then, connect it to the connector of vehicle wire harness surely.
- Remove the lock pin from the sensor.
NOTE: At that time, the projection of the adapter should be fit to the hole on the steering shaft.NOTE: At that time, the three nails on the steering angle sensor would catch the adaptor. - Connect No. 2 Universal Joint Assembly.
- Align the matchmarks on the column assembly and No. 2 universal joint assembly.
- Install the bolt.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf) .
- Install The Column Assembly With No. 2 Universal Joint Assembly.
- Install the 4 steering column set nuts.
Torque: 26 N.m (260 kgf.cm, 19 ft.lbf)
- Connect the connectors.NOTE: At that time, take care not to rotate steering shaft.
- Install the 4 steering column set nuts.
- Connect Transmission Control Cable Assembly.
Connect the cable assembly to the shift lever assembly.
- Install The Column Hole Cover No. 2 To Body With The 3 Bolts.
Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 ft.lbf) .
- Install No. 2 Intermediate Shaft Assembly.
- Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 universal joint assembly and No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly.
- Align the matchmarks on the control valve shaft and No.2 intermediate shaft assembly.
- Install the "B" bolt.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf) .
- Install the "A" bolt.
Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf) .
- Install Brake Pedal Return Spring.
- Install No. 2 Heater To Register Duct.
- Install Lower LH Finish Panel.
- Install the lower LH finish panel with the 4 bolts.
- Connect the hood lock release lever with the 2 screws.
- Install Cowl Side Trim And Front Door Scuff Plate.
- Install Spiral Cable .
- Install Combination Switch With Spiral Cable.
- Install the combination switch with the 3 screws.
- Connect the airbag connector.
- Connect the 4 connectors.
- Install The Upper And Lower Column Covers With The 3 Screws.
- Center Spiral Cable.
- Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
- Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable.
- Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the mark.
NOTE: The cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either left or right of the center. - Install Steering Wheel.
- Align the matchmarks on the wheel and main shaft.
- Install the wheel set nut.
Torque: 50 N.m (510 kgf.cm, 37 ft.lbf)
- Connect the connector.
- Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
- Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
- If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
- When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts.
- Install Steering Wheel Pad.
- Connect the terminal.
- Connect the airbag connector.
- Install the wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the Torx screw is caught on the screw case.
- Using a Torx socket wrench, torque the 2 screws.
Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)
- Install the 2 steering wheel lower No. 2 covers.
- Check Steering Wheel Center Point.
- Perform Zero Point Calibration Of Steering Angle, Master Cylinder Pressure, Yaw Rate And Deceleration Sensors .
