Test No. 33: Only One Rear Passenger Door Power Window Does Not Operate

NOTE: Rear power window switches are monitored by the body control ECU and will set a DTC. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT before servicing rear power window switches.
  1. If multiplex control system is operating properly and no DTCs exist, go to next step. If multiplex control system is operating properly and DTCs exist, perform service procedure to repair fault. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  2. Check rear power window switch. See REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS in POWER WINDOWS - AVALON article under WINDOWS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If rear power window switch is okay, go to next step. If rear power window switch is defective, replace rear power window switch. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  3. Check power window motor on suspect rear door. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS in POWER WINDOWS - AVALON article under WINDOWS in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If power window motor is okay, go to next step. If power window motor is defective, replace power window motor. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 6-pin electrical harness connector from suspect rear window switch and 2-pin electrical harness connector from corresponding rear power window motor. Check Red wire between 6-pin rear window switch electrical harness connector terminal No. 2 and 2-pin power window motor electrical harness connector terminal No. 1. Also check Green wire between 6-pin rear window switch electrical harness connector terminal No. 5 and 2-pin power window motor electrical harness connector terminal No. 2. See POWER WINDOWS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wires, harnesses and connectors are okay, go to next step. Repair wires, harnesses and connectors as required. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin body control ECU electrical harness connector B4 or B5 and 6-pin suspect rear window switch electrical harness connector. Check wires between body control ECU and corresponding rear power window switch. See POWER WINDOWS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
    • Green/Yellow wire between 25-pin body control ECU electrical harness connector B4 terminal No. 22 and 6-pin left rear window power window switch terminal No. 6 and Yellow/Red wire between 25-pin body control ECU electrical harness connector B4 terminal No. 8 and 6-pin left rear window power window switch terminal No. 1.
    • Green/Black wire between 25-pin body control ECU electrical harness connector B5 terminal No. 10 and 6-pin right rear window power window switch terminal No. 6 and Red/Black wire between 25-pin body control ECU electrical harness connector B5 terminal No. 22 and 6-pin right rear window power window switch terminal No. 1.
    If wires, harnesses and connectors are okay, go to next step. If wires, harnesses and connectors are defective, repair as necessary. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver door ECU 25-pin harness connector and 12-pin instrument panel harness connector on right front side of driver side junction block, just above body control ECU. Check Pink/Black wire between driver door ECU 25-pin harness connector terminal No. 7 and 12-pin instrument panel harness connector terminal No. 12. See POWER WINDOWS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wire, harnesses and connectors are okay, go to next step. If wire, harnesses and connectors are defective, repair as necessary. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
  7. Check body control ECU ground circuits. See BODY COMPUTER in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If ground circuits are faulty, repair and retest system. If ground circuits are okay, substitute original body control ECU with a known-good unit and recheck system operation. If system operates properly, original body control ECU was defective. If system still does not operate properly, perform body control ECU pin voltage check. See BODY CONTROL ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors for an intermittent problem. Repair wiring harnesses or connectors as necessary. If voltage values, harnesses and connectors are okay, replace body control ECU. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST . If symptom is still present, go to next step.
  8. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between battery and body control ECU, between battery and driver side junction block, between driver side junction block and rear passenger door power window switches, between body control ECU and rear passenger door power window switches, and all power and ground connections. See POWER WINDOWS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wiring harnesses or electrical connectors are defective, repair as necessary. After repairs, perform confirmation test. See CONFIRMATION TEST .
