Cruise Control Systems: Operation: Notes

Cruise control switch is a lever located on right side of steering column. Depressing cruise ON-OFF (main) button turns system on. CRUISE indicator light in instrument cluster comes on to indicate activation of system. To set desired speed, move cruise control lever downward in SET/COAST direction and release it. Desired vehicle set speed should be maintained. Depressing cruise ON-OFF (main) button again will turn cruise control system off.

Set speed can be cancelled by pulling cruise control switch toward steering wheel (CANCEL position), pressing brake pedal, pressing clutch pedal (M/T) or placing shift lever in Neutral (A/T). If vehicle speed drops 10 MPH or more below set speed or vehicle speed drops to less than 25 MPH, set speed will cancel. If cruise control ECU detects a system malfunction, set speed will automatically cancel and CRUISE indicator light will flash several times.

Moving cruise control lever in RES/ACC (resume/accelerate) direction allows vehicle to return to speed set before cancellation. Holding cruise control lever in the RES/ACC (resume/accelerate) direction gradually increases vehicle set speed. Holding cruise control lever in SET/COAST direction gradually decreases vehicle set speed.
