Basic Function Test
NOTE:
Remote transmitter operating distance can be affected by orientation of transmitter, radio interference or weak transmitter battery.
- Using inside power door lock switches, lock and unlock door locks 3 times. Stand about 3 feet from outside driver's door handle. Point remote transmitter toward vehicle. Press one remote transmitter button for about one second. If doors lock and unlock, system is okay. If doors do not lock and unlock, go to next step.
- Replace remote transmitter battery and repeat step 1. If keyless entry operates, system is okay. If keyless entry does not operate, go to next step.
- Insert key in ignition switch and then remove. Within 5 seconds, insert key and turn ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions. Within next 30 seconds, turn ignition switch to OFF, ON and OFF positions 9 times. System is now in self-diagnostic mode. Go to next step.
- Check for the following buzzer chirps. If buzzer chirps for .2 seconds, pauses, then chirps for .5 seconds, go to step 8. If buzzer does not chirp, go to next step.
- Verify method used to enter into diagnostic mode is correct. If method is not correct repeat step 3. If buzzer will not chirp, check buzzer. See KEYLESS DOOR LOCK BUZZER under COMPONENT TESTS. If buzzer is okay, go to next step.
- Check for continuity between ground and White/Black wire terminal of buzzer connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open in White/Black wire between buzzer connector and wire harness ground point at left front fender apron. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Disconnect body ECU 20-pin harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Light/Green wire between buzzer and body ECU 20-pin harness connector terminal No. 9. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less then 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in Light/Green wire. If reading is 5 ohms or more, replace body ECU with a known-good unit and retest.
- Verify remote transmitter operation by pressing each button and listening for chirps. Lock switch should chirp for .13 second, stop for 5 seconds and chip for .13 second again. Unlock switch should chirp for .13 second, stop for .25 second, chirp for .13 second and stop for .5 second. Back door switch should chirp .5 seconds on and .5 seconds off. If remote transmitter is not recognizing a code or is out of synchronization, buzzer will chirp continuously while button is depressed and held and wireless door lock receiver is receiving data. If lock, unlock and back door remote transmitter functions are operating correctly, go to next step. If remote transmitter only chirps while receiving data, go to next step. If buzzer is not working, go to step 10.
- Press any switch on remote transmitter and hold for 20 seconds while walking around vehicle. Press button again. Verify range is a minimum of 3 feet from vehicle. If remote transmitter range is as specified, keyless door lock remote transmitter and receiver are normal. If remote transmitter range is not as specified, check range with another remote transmitter. If range is as specified, reprogram suspect faulty transmitter and retest. See VEHICLE ACCESS CODE PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. If transmitter can not be programmed, replace faulty remote transmitter.
- Press each switch of existing or replacement remote transmitter programmed for vehicle. If one remote transmitter causes vehicle to properly respond with the correct response, replace faulty remote transmitter. If both remote transmitters fail to respond, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect body ECU harness connectors. See Fig 1. Disconnect wireless door lock control receiver harness connector. See Fig 2. Wireless door lock control receiver is located in middle of instrument panel above center console. See Fig 3. Go to next step.
- Check continuity of Violet wire between wireless door lock control receiver connector terminal No. 3 and body ECU connector B7, terminal No. 10 (Violet wire). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Violet wire.
- Check continuity of Red/Green wire between wireless door lock control receiver connector terminal No. 2 and body ECU connector B7, terminal No. 9 (Red/Green wire). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Red/Green wire.
- Using DVOM connected to ground, measure resistance at body ECU connector B7, terminal No. 9 (Violet wire), then terminal No. 10 (Red/Green wire). If reading is less than one ohm at either terminal, repair short to ground in failed circuit. If both readings are one ohm or more, go to next step.
- Connect all ECU harness connectors. Connect scan tool to DLC3 connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check if DTC B1242 is present. If DTC B1242 is set, replace body ECU with a known-good unit and retest. If DTC B1242 is present, replace faulty wireless door lock control receiver. Ensure all remote transmitters are present, then rewrite all recognition codes for all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMING under PROGRAMMING.
