Power Source Circuit
- Ensure ignition is off. Note location of transponder key amplifier near ignition lock cylinder. See Figure. Disconnect electrical connector at transponder key amplifier.
- Using voltmeter, check voltage between terminals No. 3 (White/Black wire) and No. 5 (Black wire) at transponder key amplifier electrical connector. This is the ground and +B terminals. See Fig 1. Voltage should be 9-14 volts. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step. If voltage is within specification, proceed to next item to be inspected. See TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS table under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Remove EFI1 fuse (15-amp). EFI1 fuse is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side rear corner of engine compartment. See Figure. Check EFI1 fuse. If EFI1 fuse is okay, go to next step. If EFI1 fuse is defective, check for short in wiring harness and electrical connectors connected to EFI1 fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . For additional wiring for EFI1 fuse, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article and ENGINE PERFORMANCE article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Replace EFI1 fuse and repair wiring or electrical connector as necessary.
- Check EFI relay operation. See EFI RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If EFI relay is okay, go to next step. If EFI relay is defective, replace EFI relay.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between ground connection, junction block No. 6 and terminal No. 3 (White/Black wire) at transponder key amplifier. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Junction block No. 6 is located behind center of instrument panel. See Figure. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between battery, EFI1 fuse, EFI relay and terminal No. 5 (Black wire) at transponder key amplifier. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . For additional wiring for EFI1 fuse and EFI relay, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
