Security Indicator Light Circuit

CAUTION: If Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement is instructed in following test, always ensure ECM electrical connectors and ground circuits are okay. For ECM ground circuits, see ENGINE PERFORMANCE article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If either are defective, repair and repeat testing to confirm ECM malfunction.
  1. Remove heater control assembly. See HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using jumper wires, connect positive battery terminal to terminal No. 6 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 4 on electrical connector for heater control assembly and check operation of SECURITY indicator light. See Fig 1. If SECURITY indicator light comes on, go to next step. If security indicator light is does not come on, replace heater control assembly.
  2. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between Engine Control Module (ECM) and SECURITY indicator light, and between ground connection, junction block No. 6 and SECURITY indicator light. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . ECM is located inside of firewall, directly behind driver's seat and luggage compartment. See Figure. For additional information on component removal for access to ECM, see ENGINE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Junction block No. 6 is located behind center of instrument panel. See Figure.
  3. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay and engine immobilizer cannot be set, proceed to next item to be inspected. See TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS  table under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay and engine immobilizer can be set, replace ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure ignition keys are registered to the ECM. See IGNITION KEY REGISTRATION  under PROGRAMMING.
