Water Pump Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Toyota Prius. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove A/C control assembly, leaving harness connectors connected. See A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Operate blower motor. Measure voltage between connector A9 terminal No. 3 (Blue/Red wire) and ground. With engine running, battery voltage should be present. With engine off, less than one volt should be present. If voltages are to specification, circuit is okay. If voltages are not to specification, go to next step.
  2. Check A/C water pump relay. See RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace relay as necessary. If relay is okay, go to next step.
  3. Remove water pump. See WATER PUMP  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. For 10 seconds maximum, connect positive lead from 6 1.5-volt dry cell batteries to water pump connector terminal No. 1, and negative lead to terminal No. 2. If motor operates smoothly, go to next step. If motor does not operate smoothly, replace water pump.
  4. Check wiring and connectors between water pump motor and A/C control assembly, and between A/C control assembly and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace A/C control assembly.
