NOT Using TOYOTA Hand-Held Tester
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Check that the shift lever is at P range, turn steering wheel to the neutral position. Using special tool (09843-18040), connect terminals Ts and CG of DLC3, and start engine. Check that the VSC warning light blinks. If it does not blink, inspect VSC warning light circuit and Ts terminal circuit. See SYSTEM TESTS .NOTE: After a NEW ECU is installed for the first time only, start the engine and keep the vehicle in stationary condition on a flat surface for 3 seconds or more. Zero point calibration and yaw rate sensor calibration will be performed automatically.
- To check steering angle sensor, turn steering wheel left or right from stationary position to lock position. To check yaw rate sensor, drive vehicle at an approx. speed of 3 mph and turn steering wheel to left or right 90° or more, and maintain a 180° circular drive of vehicle. Stop vehicle and place shift lever in P position, check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
- If buzzer sounds, VSC sensor check is normal. If buzzer does not sound, check VSC buzzer circuit, then do sensor check again. See VSC BUZZER CIRCUIT under SYSTEM TESTS. If system still will not operate, see RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Drive vehicle in a 180° circle. At end of turn, the direction of vehicle should be within 175-185 degrees of start position. Read the number of blinks output by VSC warning light.
- If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output (A cycle of 0.25 seconds ON and 0.25 seconds OFF are repeated). If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed. After doing check, turn ignition off and remove tool.
