Security Indicator Light Circuit
CAUTION:
If Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement is instructed in following test, always ensure ECM electrical connectors and ground circuits are okay. For ECM ground circuits, see ENGINE PERFORMANCE article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If either are defective, repair and repeat testing to confirm ECM malfunction.
- Remove SECURITY indicator light. SECURITY indicator light is located on the dash, just to the left of steering column, next to rear view mirror switches. Using jumper wires, connect positive battery terminal to terminal No. 1 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 2 on SECURITY indicator light and check operation of SECURITY indicator light. See Fig 1. If SECURITY indicator light comes on, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator light is does not come on, replace SECURITY indicator light.
- The wiring circuit between ECM and SECURITY indicator light should be checked. Ensure ignition is off. Remove necessary components for access to ECM. ECM is located behind glove box and contains 5 electrical connectors. See Figure. Disconnect ECM electrical connector E6 on 2.4L 4-cylinder models or ECM electrical connector E5 on 3.0L V6 models. See Fig 2.
- Ensure 2-pin electrical connector is disconnected at SECURITY indicator light. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Light Green wire) at SECURITY indicator light electrical connector and terminal No. 26 (Light Green wire) at ECM electrical connector E6 on 2.4L 4-cylinder models or terminal No. 22 (Light Green wire) at ECM electrical connector E5 on 3.0L V6 models. See Fig 2. This is the IMLD terminal on ECM. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Green wire or electrical connector between SECURITY indicator light and ECM.
- Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between body ground and terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire) at SECURITY indicator light electrical connector. See Fig 2. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in White/Black wire or electrical connector between SECURITY indicator light and ground connection.
- Replace ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure ignition keys are registered to the ECM. See IGNITION KEY REGISTRATION under PROGRAMMING.
