Test No. 43: Power Mirror Does Not Operate
NOTE:
Test applies only to models with memory power mirrors.
- Check ECU-B fuse (7.5-amp), PWR SEAT fuse (30-amp) and GAUGE No. 1 fuse (10-amp) fuse. These fuses are located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. See Figure. If fuses are okay, go to next step. If any fuse is defective, repair short in wiring for appropriate fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER MIRRORS article. For additional wiring for power supply circuit, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Check power mirror switch. See POWER MIRROR SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If power mirror switch is okay, go to next step. If power mirror switch is defective, replace power mirror switch and recheck power mirror operation.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between power mirror switch and power seat Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER MIRRORS article. Power seat ECU is located below the driver's seat. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connectors are defective, repair as necessary and recheck power mirror operation.
- Check power mirror motor. See COMPONENT TESTS in POWER MIRRORS article. If power mirror motor is okay, go to next step. If power mirror motor is defective, replace power mirror assembly and recheck power mirror operation.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between power mirror motor and driver's door ECU or passenger's door ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER MIRRORS article. Driver's door ECU and passenger's door ECU are located on each door and is incorporated into the power window switch assembly. See Figure. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connectors are defective, repair as necessary and recheck power mirror operation.
- Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage or input signal does not exist, repair as necessary and recheck power mirror operation.
- Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck power mirror operation. If power mirror operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If power mirror still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for body ECU and power mirror system for an intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER MIRRORS article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to for proper voltage and input signals at appropriate door ECU for the malfunctioning power mirror before replacing body ECU. See DRIVER'S DOOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT and PASSENGER'S DOOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS.
