Test No. 21: Luggage Compartment Light Does Not Operate
- Luggage compartment light is located in the trunk. See Figure. Check light bulb for luggage compartment light. If light bulb is okay, go to next step. If light bulb is defective, replace light bulb and recheck luggage compartment light operation.
- Check DOME fuse (7.5-amp). DOME fuse is located in fuse/relay box at driver's side of instrument panel. See Figure. If DOME fuse is okay, go to next step. If DOME fuse is defective, replace fuse and repair wiring harness or electrical connector on wiring circuit as necessary and recheck luggage compartment light operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Disconnect electrical connector from luggage compartment light. Using ohmmeter, check that continuity exists between electrical terminals on luggage compartment light. If continuity exists, reinstall electrical connector. Go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace luggage compartment light and recheck luggage compartment light operation.
- Disconnect electrical connector for luggage compartment light switch. Luggage compartment light switch is located near the trunk latch assembly and contains a one-pin electrical connector with a Red/White wire. Luggage compartment light switch may also be referred to as luggage compartment door courtesy switch.
- Using ohmmeter, check that no continuity exists between body ground and electrical terminal on luggage compartment light switch with switch pin released to the OFF position and that continuity exists switch pin depressed to the ON position. If operation is as specified, reinstall electrical connector. Go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace luggage compartment light switch and recheck luggage compartment light operation.
- Check body ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See BODY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage or input signal does not exist, repair as necessary and recheck luggage compartment light operation.
- Replace body ECU with a known-good body ECU and recheck luggage compartment light operation. If luggage compartment light operates properly, original body ECU was defective. If luggage compartment light does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for body ECU and luggage compartment light for an intermittent problem. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
