Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Notes
NOTE:
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) may be retrieved using Toyota hand-held tester, On-Board Diagnostic (OBD-II) scan tool that complies with SAE standard J-1978, or by using Jumper Wire (SST 09843-18040) and the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on instrument panel. If using jumper wire and the MIL on instrument panel to display DTCs, the MIL will only display a DTC No. 99 that indicates a problem exists in the engine immobilizer system. The problem is then diagnosed by the trouble symptom. If using Toyota hand-held tester in CHECK mode, if ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or OFF position, or tester is switched from CHECK mode to NORMAL mode, or from NORMAL mode to CHECK mode, all DTCs will be erased from Engine Control Module (ECM). DO NOT switch modes until all DTCs are recorded.
