Key Unlock Warning Switch

NOTE: Key unlock warning switch turns on when ignition key is inserted into key cylinder, and goes off when key is removed. ECU operates key confinement prevention function while switch is on.
  1. Locate and disconnect key unlock warning switch connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, check for continuity between switch connector terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire) and No. 2 (Blue/Black wire). With key in ignition, continuity should be indicated. With key removed from ignition, continuity should not be indicated. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace key unlock warning switch.
  2. Disconnect theft-deterrent ECU 22-pin connector "B". Check for continuity in Blue/Black wire between key unlock warning switch harness connector terminal No. 2 and theft-deterrent ECU 22-pin connector "B", terminal No. 6. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Blue/Black wire as necessary and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity is indicated, check for continuity in White/Black wire between key unlock warning switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in White/Black wire as necessary and retest system. If continuity is indicated, go to next step.
  3. If problem is related to theft-deterrent system's inability to set, go to TRUNK LOCK & UNLOCK SWITCH . If problem is not related to theft-deterrent system's inability to set, perform ECU pin voltage/resistance checks. See ECU PIN VOLTAGE/RESISTANCE TESTS . If voltage/resistance values are as specified, replace theft-deterrent ECU and retest system. See THEFT-DETERRENT ECU  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
