Description & Operation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Body control system controls the following systems: anti-theft, automatic light control, illuminated entry, keyless entry, power door locks and rear wiper/washer. Instrument panel Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may be used along with other controllers for controlling the various systems. Instrument panel ECU may also be referred to as instrument panel control ECU, instrument ECU, or body ECU. Instrument panel ECU is located behind the center of the instrument panel. See Fig 1.
