Abs Warning Light Circuit: Testing

  1. Check ABS warning light. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article. Repair if necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  2. On all models, check ABS relay. For 1997 models, see ABS CONTROL RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS . For 1998 Tercel, see ABS SOLENOID RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS . On all models, if relay is okay, repair open circuit between DLC1, relay and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If relay is faulty, replace ABS relay.
  3. Check DTCS. See RETRIEVING DTCS under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS . If DTC can be retrieved, diagnose and repair as necessary. If DTC cannot be retrieved, go to next step.
  4. If ABS warning light turns off when short pin is removed, go to next step. If ABS warning light does not turn off when short pin is removed, repair short in wiring harness between warning light, DLC1 and ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Check ABS relay. See step 2). Replace if necessary. If no problem is found, repair short in wiring harness between DLC1 and relay. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
