INTRODUCTION

Due to the change in ECM specifications for the 1998 model year Tacoma, the Scantool with 1997 software (version 4.0 - November 22, 1996) will not function correctly on these vehicles in some modes.

1. The Scantool functions currently working with 1997 software are:
   1. Read/Clear Trouble Codes.
   2. All CARB OBDII functions.
   3. Parameter data (except those functions listed below).
2. The Scantool data parameters that do not work using 1997 software Scantool is scheduled to be released in the 4th quarter of this year and will correct this condition.

   NOTE: The VBOB functions on the scantool will not be functional until Version 5 software is available. ECM pin-outs are different on the 1998 Tacoma, thus the VBOB sends erroneous data.
   • EGRT GAS and FUEL PUMP work on V6 applications, but DO NOT on L4 models.

PROCEDURE

Until the new software is released use only the following functions with the existing software:

1. CARB OBDII
   • All functions work.
2. Enhanced OBDII
   • Read DTCs (trouble codes).
   • Read data parameters except as listed above.
3. Circuit Tester and Oscilloscope functions.
   • Function in normal manner.
