Manual Switch Circuit

NOTE: If using Lexus Hand-Held Tester (scan tool), start at step 1). If scan tool is not available, start at step 2).
  1. Connect Lexus Hand-Held Tester (scan tool) to DLC3. Turn ignition and tester on. Select DATALIST mode on tester. Operate manual switch in each position and note voltage reading. See MANUAL SWITCH OPERATION PIN VOLTAGE  table. If all voltages are as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  and perform the next test listed. If all voltages are not as specified, go to step 3). If only one voltage is not as specified, replace switch.
  2. Remove tilt and telescopic control module and leave harness connectors connected. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between tilt and telescopic control module connector T7, terminals No. 6 (White/Black wire) and No. 5 (Purple/Yellow wire). See Figure. Operate manual switch in each position and note voltage reading. See MANUAL SWITCH OPERATION PIN VOLTAGE  table. If all voltages are as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  and perform the next test listed. If all voltages are not as specified, go to next step. If only one voltage is not as specified, replace switch.
    MANUAL SWITCH OPERATION PIN VOLTAGE

    Switch Position (1) Voltage
    Neutral 0-.20
    Tilt Down .30-.50
    Telescopic Retract .65-.95
    Telescopic Extend 2.05-2.75
    (1) Approximate measured voltage.
  3. Check voltage between tilt and telescopic control module connector T7, terminal No. 2 (Purple wire) and ground. If voltage is not 4.5-5.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4.5-5.5 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect manual switch 10-pin connector. Measure resistance between manual switch connector terminals No. 4 and 9. See Fig 1. Operate manual switch in each position and note resistance. See MANUAL SWITCH RESISTANCE  table. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, replace tilt and telescopic manual switch.

  4. Check wiring harness between tilt and telescopic control module and manual switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If wiring harness is okay, check tilt and telescopic control module. See TILT & TELESCOPIC CONTROL MODULE PIN VOLTAGE TEST  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. Replace as necessary and retest system.
