Test No. 11
- Check Voltage At Trunk Opener Motor
Remove trim panel from trunk for access to trunk opener motor. Disconnect 1-pin electrical connector with Black wire at trunk opener motor. - Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground and Black wire on 1-pin electrical connector at trunk opener motor with trunk opener cable pulled and not pulled. Voltage should be 5-14 volts with trunk opener cable pulled, and less than one volt with trunk opener cable not pulled. If voltage is not within specification, go to next step. If voltage is within specification, go to step 5.
- Check Trunk Opener Motor Wiring
Check for defective connectors and Black wire between trunk opener motor and anti-theft system Electronic Control Unit (ECU). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Anti-theft system ECU is located near passenger's side of instrument panel, behind glove box, just above kick panel and uses a 12-pin electrical connector and a 22-pin electrical connector. See Figure. - If connectors and wiring are okay, replace anti-theft system ECU. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ECU under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connectors or wiring are defective, repair as necessary.CAUTION: Ensure battery voltage is not applied to trunk opener motor for more than one second when checking trunk opener motor.
- Check Trunk Opener Motor
With electrical connector disconnected at trunk opener motor, connect positive battery terminal to electrical terminal on trunk opener motor and negative battery terminal to body ground. See Fig 1. DO NOT apply battery voltage to trunk opener motor for more than one second. If trunk opener motor operates properly, go to next test listed. See TROUBLE SHOOTING SYMPTOMS table under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If trunk opener motor does not operate, replace trunk opener motor.
