Air Induction System: Supercharger: Reassembly

  1. Apply light coat of engine oil on upper surface of each rotor. DO NOT  allow engine oil to contact sealing surfaces on rear plate and housing.
CAUTION: When applying Loctite on housing, DO NOT  apply excessive amount of Loctite or it will overflow into groove and inside of the housing.
  2. Apply light coat of Loctite 518 on outer edge of groove on rear of housing at rear plate contact surface. See Fig 1. Install rear plate on housing. Install and tighten rear plate-to-housing bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.

  3. Place housing and rear plate in soft-jawed vise. Hold bolt at the center of one drive gear on rear rotor on supercharger while installing rotor nuts on the front of each shaft on rotor. Tighten rotor nuts to specification.
  4. Using NEW gasket, install rear cover. Tighten rear cover bolts to specification.
  5. Remove grease from inside of front cover. Pour .05 ounce of Supercharger Grease (Part No. 08887-80109) into front cover. Using NEW gasket, install front cover and wire clamp. Tighten front cover bolts to specification.
  6. Install clutch flange. Tighten clutch flange bolts to specification.
CAUTION: When installing clutch stator on clutch flange, ensure protrusion on rear of clutch stator aligns with hole in clutch flange. Ensure snap ring is installed with tapered side of snap ring facing away from the housing. Tapered side should be toward front of supercharger.
  7. Install clutch stator on clutch flange so protrusion on rear of clutch stator aligns with hole in clutch flange. Install snap ring so tapered side of snap ring is facing away from the housing. Tapered side should be toward front of supercharger.
  8. Install clutch pulley. Tighten ring nut to specification. Install shim and clutch hub. Tighten clutch hub nut to specification.
  9. Clutch air gap must now be checked. Place reference marks on clutch hub and clutch pulley to ensure clutch hub and clutch pulley remain in the same location.
  10. Assemble dial indicator with stem of dial indicator resting against the front of clutch hub. Momentarily apply battery voltage and ground to electrical terminals on clutch stator and measure movement of clutch hub to determine the clutch air gap.
  11. Recheck clutch air gap in 3 different locations on clutch hub. Ensure reference marks on clutch hub and clutch pulley remain aligned when checking clutch air gap. Average the 4 readings together to determine the clutch air gap.
  12. Clutch air gap should be .0138-.0256" (.350-.650 mm). If clutch air gap is not within specification, install different thickness shim. Install thinner shim if clutch air gap exceeds specification, or thicker shim if clutch air gap is less than specification. Shims are available in thickness of .004" (.10 mm) to .067" (1.70 mm) in .008" (.20 mm) increments.
  13. If installing elbow in rear plate, apply Loctite 518 elbow before installing. Lightly tap elbow into rear plate. Ensure elbow is positioned within proper area and clearance between elbow and rear plate is .039-.079" (1.00-2.00 mm). See Fig 2.
  14. If installing union, tap union into housing. Ensure magnetic plug is clean. Using NEW "O" ring, install magnetic plug. Fill supercharger with 4.4 Ozs. (.13L) of Supercharger Oil (Part No. 08885-80108).
