Power Steering Pump Specifications: Inspection

  1. Measure clearance between pump shaft and front housing bushing. Replace components if clearance exceeds specification. See POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Measure vane plate length, height, and thickness. Measure clearance between vane plate and rotor. Replace components if not within specification.
NOTE: If replacing rotor, ensure number stamped on outer edge of rotor is same as number stamped on outer surface of cam ring.
  3. Inspect flow control valve for damage. Coat valve with ATF, and ensure flow control valve moves freely in housing bore. Close one hole on side of flow control valve.
  4. Apply 57-71 psi (4-5 kg/cm2 ) of air pressure to hole on opposite side of flow control valve. If air escapes from hole on bottom of valve, replace flow control valve. Measure free length of flow control valve spring. If length is not within specification, replace flow control valve spring. See POWER STEERING PUMP SPECIFICATIONS .
CAUTION: If replacing flow control valve, ensure replacement valve has same letter as stamped on outer edge of original valve.
