Description & Operation
Power steering system consists of a belt-driven pump, variable-assist steering gear, and connecting hydraulic lines. An air control valve increases idle speed when the power steering pump is loaded.
Pickup uses standard or electronic power steering. On electronic power steering, vehicle speed is detected by speed sensor in instrument cluster. Fluid pressure is regulated according to vehicle speed by power steering Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
On Pickup with rear anti-lock brakes, power steering pump delivers fluid through actuator for brake system. Special bleeding procedure must be used on this system.
