Speed Sensor & Deceleration Sensor Diagnostics
NOTE:
While diagnosing sensors, ABS functions as a conventional brake system.
- Ensure battery is in good condition and fully charged. Turn ignition on. Ensure REAR ANTI-LOCK light comes on, then goes out after 3 seconds. If REAR ANTI-LOCK light does not come on, check fuse, bulb, and wiring harness.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between DLC terminals Ts and E1. See Figure. Start engine. On 2WD vehicles, after one flash in 1-1.5 seconds, REAR ANTI-LOCK light should flash 4 times per second. On 4WD vehicles, after 2 flashes in 2 seconds, REAR ANTI-LOCK light should flash 4 times per second.
- Drive vehicle straight ahead at speed faster than 12.4 MPH. Press brake pedal firmly, then release. REAR ANTI-LOCK light should come on while brake pedal is applied, and flash 4 times per second when pedal is released.
- Drive vehicle straight ahead at speed faster than 31 MPH, then stop vehicle. REAR ANTI-LOCK light should flash 4 times per second. If light functions as described, check is complete. If light does not function as specified, connect jumper wire between DLC terminals Tc and E1. DO NOT remove jumper wire between terminals Ts and E1. See Figure.
- If a code is stored, 2.5 seconds will elapse, then REAR ANTI-LOCK light will begin flashing 2-digit code. First series of flashes indicates first digit of code. After a 1.5-second pause, second series of flashes will begin, indicating second digit of code.
- If 2 or more codes are stored, a 2.5-second pause will separate codes. After all codes are flashed, there will be a 2.5-second pause, then all codes will be repeated.
- Record diagnostic codes. Turn ignition off. Repair as necessary. See SPEED SENSOR & DECELERATION SENSOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES. Remove jumper wire from check connector. Clear diagnostic codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
