Anti-Lock Brake System: Description
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) consists of 4 speed sensors, ABS Electronic Control Unit (ABS ECU), and ABS actuator assembly. See Figure. Front and rear wheel speed sensors detect wheel speed. ABS ECU receives signals from speed sensors to calculate acceleration, deceleration, and slip values.
ABS ECU sends signals to actuator to control brake fluid pressure to each brake. An ABS indicator light alerts driver when system trouble occurs. ABS indicator light comes on for 3 seconds as a bulb test when ignition is first turned on.
