System Operation Check
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1993 Geo Prizm. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
If system is functioning normally, INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator light should flash 7-9 times and then go off when ignition switch is turned to ON position. If INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator light does not function as described, perform diagnostics. See DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
Following INFLATABLE RESTRAINT indicator light conditions can indicate a system failure:
- Light does not glow at all.
- Light comes on while vehicle is driven.
- Light flashes 7 times and remains on.
- Light does not flash but remains lit when ignition is turned on.
- Light begins to flash a Code 12.
SIR system faults are usually due to a disconnected/loose electrical connector caused by previous service on vehicle. Always check Orange connector at base of steering column.
